neunundvierzig mal unberechenbar verrechnet

26.10. – 31.12. 2018

unpredictably calculated forty-nine times

7 larger-than-life figures stand in the nave. Observed more closely, the 7 works are structured into a pedestal that is built from 6 standing Davids, packed for transport. The 7th David is standing on the pedestal. There are a total of 49 David sculptures in the room.

7, a primary number, is the number of days in the week; God created the world in 7 days; there are 7 virtues, 7 deadly sins and 7 wonders of the world; there are 7 celestial bodies visible to the naked eye: alongside the Sun and Moon, you have the planets Saturn, Jupiter, Venus, Mercury and Mars.

In the chancel and choir, Pavel Schmidt presents his Kafka series composed of 49 pictures. Pavel Schmidt uses copies of Franz Kafka’s manuscripts from the work “The Castle”, published by Stroemfeld Verlag, Frankfurt. 49 coalescences of drawings and texts were created. The document does not explain the image, and the drawings do not illustrate the text. But the composition becomes a single artistic entity.
