Herbert Brandl is present

It’s the strength exuded by his paintings. Which comes from the direct, rapid, gestural application of paint. And his immense physical effort. His brushwork is completely assured. The empirical act works. The painting is concentrated. The artist present.

Generous with his trust – sending his huge compositions on their way, just painted and barely dry, on big rolls, to be reattached to stretchers at the exhibition venue.Vienna, Solothurn. Approving and pleasantly relieved Herbert Brandl views his exhibition at Haus der Kunst St. Josef. On the day of the opening.

The mountain above the Altarbar. Colourful, magenta-red, and pointed like the Matterhorn in Switzerland. Or the north face of the Eiger. It could even be Mount Everest. But that has long since ceased to matter. The artist is already completely fascinated by our local mountain, by the fact that the Jura mountain ranges skirts past us here, on its way from Basel to Geneva, separating us from France and connecting us to France. And he is already asking, with great interest: How many Jura chains are there? – Brandl is present.
